UK Dairy Day Announces Prize Money

The Cattle Show at UK Dairy Day is one of the focal points of the event and this year prize money is totalling an impressive £18,000. Competitors for Holstein, Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Dairy Shorthorn and Jersey breeds will be battling it out in an attempt to claim one of the prestigious top spots - with a healthy prize package to celebrate with too!

The Cattle Show has a wealth of support from significant sponsors and associates, resulting in substantial amounts of prize money for their respective cattle class. This includes the Group of Four, The Barclays & Holstein UK Grand Champion, The Cogent Ayrshire Champion, The Silostop Brown Swiss Champion, The Eprinex Dairy Shorthorn Champion, The NWF Jersey Championship – and many more acclaimed awards. This year prize money is impressive with even 10th position receiving £50 for their success.

Breeders will travel from across the country to the event, with 186 cattle stalls already booked, for judging in the main ring throughout the day on Wednesday 16th September. The Coloured Breed competition will include 12 coloured classes and four championships classes whilst the Holstein section will see eight classes, four championships classes and the group of four. This selection of the very best cattle will be judged by an esteemed panel of judges, including Nico Bons, John Suffern and Mark Logan. A timetable for classes is available to view on the UK Dairy Day website at: http://www.ukdairyday.co.uk/cattle-show/judging-timetable.

Unique Red Ribbon Sale

The Cattle Show culminates at 4.30pm when the Red Ribbon Sale begins in the main ring.  This new Red Ribbon Sale will feature the best dairy animals of any breed, hand-picked, and specially selected by Glyn Lucas, Senior Dairy Auctioneer at Harrison & Hetherington. Any breeder or owner can enter an animal for this unique sale opportunity.

Carl Smith, UK Dairy Day Show Director, commented; “The Cattle Show is a tremendous feature of UK Dairy Day and this year is only enhanced by the new Red Ribbon Sale at the end of the day. The event will represent a fantastic array of cattle breeds – and of course some great competitive spirit amongst breeders! We encourage visitors to watch the show and enjoy the very high standard of cattle on display. With the support of our sponsors, we have been able to offer an attractive package of prize money and we are thoroughly looking forward to learning who will be the 2015 winners!”
